The built up capability to handle real world scenario is the original goal of Taichi in Chen village. However, the approach is very different then what is being practiced today.

First, the art was being taught in family from father to son. So it is normal and not surprised for over 20 years to build up the level of efficiency in fighters.

Secondly, the purpose of training is to build a healthy person both in mental and physical condition. So that the family the village could grow in harmony.

From this assumption, exercises that fully activate entire body through period of time makes the young one grows a very Peng Jing correct body mechanism. The joints are big, relaxed and accurately aligned. The back is hunched and shoulders low down. Hip wide and legs well supported. Most importantly the heavy grown abdomen and lower back muscle group and fascia.

Through push hand and weapon practice, the relaxed body is not only operator it's own mass but also the added mass from a weapon or much more difficult, a moving opponent.

The push hand training is starting from fixed step, simple circle to moving steps complex circles. Eventually, they do quickly move with punch and kicking. Notice that the development is gradual and well designed.

Not to include the theory of Taichi gives the optimum handle in space and time that give the advantage of this art. We can see the long term training really prepare one for the optimize test. Not voluntary, only when their family, village need their protection.

That is why in so many wars in the village history, they defeat the offender and protect their weak and young. Remember, this is not an art that train us looking for fight. It is helping us to find a balance between survive and elegance.
